And the sequel is …. Darth Paper Strikes Back!

Finally, I can reveal the secret! Darth Vader is the Star Wars star of the sequel to The Strange Case of Origami Yoda, which will be called…

Darth Paper Strikes Back!

Darth Vader was the strong favorite in the Origami Who poll, beating Han & Chewie, Admiral Ackbar and a Clone Trooper by thousands of votes! So I’m very happy to say that the majority was right this time and Darth will be coming to McQuarrie Middle School along with Dwight, Tommy, Kellen, Sara, Rhondella and just about everybody else from the first book including Origami Yoda.

Want to guess who brings him to school? Dwight? No way! Tommy? Nope. Harvey? No comment!

The book comes out next FALL. In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy Horton Halfpott (Spring 2011) and, of course, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda.

Now… let’s get down to business…

Folding intructions. Here they are! Just click on each one to see it bigger…

The Contest:

How would you like to be one of the first people on THIS planet to read “Origami Yoda II: Darth Paper Strikes Back?”

If you win this contest you can be. The winner of this contest will receive an ADVANCE copy of the book directly from me long before it is available in stores next Fall. (They’ll have to promise not to give away the INCREDIBLE, MIND-BLOWING ENDING, of course!)

Here’s how to enter: Once you’ve made your own Darth Paper, take a photo of him somewhere interesting…. your school cafeteria, the Corn Palace in South Dakota, the White House, your Grandma’s kitchen, the Death Star…. anywhere you happen to be. The person who sends in the coolest photo wins*. (To be chosen by judges.)

Just send it as an EMAIL ATTACHMENT to tom@origamiyoda.com. Be sure to tell me what state/country the photo was taken in. (And if you can resize it to 800px that would be great!)

No purchase necessary … but you will need to fold a Darth Paper!

hi tom! how do you make that helmet part so long? and and how big should the sheet of paper be? 1/4 or 1/2 or a whole sheet?

  Tom Angleberger wrote @

Try with a whole sheet, but trim one inch of a side… Once you get comfortable you can try a 1/2…

  Jack Tolen wrote @

kellen brings it !

Thank you so much for the instructions!!! I am a huge origami guy and Iv tried folding it with black/white origami paper and noticed that it dose not work out like that. I think I have to use just black paper am I right?

  Jack Tolen wrote @

i tried i using black paper also, it was very small, but the picture tom took up at the top must be zoomed in because black/white paper does not work, so heres what you do. fold the paper in half, and cut on the line, that should be a big enough peice of paper.

  Tom Angleberger wrote @

Actually, you can fold it with black/white paper… there’s just an extra step involved. Basically, you need to fold up the bottom edge and tuck it under his chin. It helps to have the paper be a bit longer.

I didn’t include that in the instructions, since I didn’t think most people would have access to black/white paper. I special ordered a stack of it from an origami company.

  Javier wrote @

Thanks!

  darth paper wrote @

its obiously harvey who brings it, it says in the instructions

  Jimmy wrote @

When does the contest end?

  Tom Angleberger wrote @

I’m going to post the official rules … including the end date in a few days. You’ll have at least a couple of months…

  Jimmy wrote @

I found a way to get a better-sized (in my opinion) Darth Paper. You use a quarter of a regular paper to start. When you finish, he’s a little easier to hold…

  Tom Angleberger wrote @

Good job, Jimmy. Experimenting with the paper size is a great way to fold better origami!

  Sierra wrote @

i always use a quarter of regular paper, because then you can get 4 modules instead of one, i also figured out how to use these instructionst o make a clone trooper, you just tuck the mouth thing backwards under itself instead of infront and at the end you draw on all the lines for features and make a paper gun and tape it on. i am in the proess of making a clone army, i have capitain rex and like 5 clone troopers already!

  Tom Angleberger wrote @

Wow! Let’s see some pictures!

To get a brown cloak, you need to fold Yoda froma piece of paper that is green on one side and brown on the other. You can simply glue a brown sheet to a green sheet, but it may be tricky to fold.

  Bernie wrote @

Hey in case anybody doesn’t have black paper or white markers, you can get both at most arts and craft store, like a.c.moore. You may not think it makes that much of a difference, but it really looks better.

  Ethan wrote @

I think origami yoda defeated darth paper.

  bob wrote @

I think the story is sooooooooooooooooooooo boss

  Bernie wrote @

Also, to make the darth paper look more like the one on the cover, use an 11 1/2 ( or whatever the average length of a paper is) by 4 1/4 piece of paper and a silver (not white) painty twin marker. I recently found out silver looks much better. And to get the pouch, make a pleat at the bottom of the page before you do anything.

  Josanne Charles (@josanne_alana) wrote @

it looks easy to turn it into a emperor.

  Rakuto Akata wrote @

i think it looks a lot like it anyway

  Rakuto Akata wrote @

please reply tom cuz if u dont…who knows what fate will befall you
